The Trans-Himalayan Region of Ladakh is a treasure trove of natural wonders that enthrals avid naturalists. The region is
described as a high altitude cold desert, because it receives minimal precipitation as the moisture-laden monsoon clouds are
blocked by the Himalayan crest. Thus, the vegetation is sparse, but the region surprisingly supports a rich assemblage of
flora and fauna adapted to high altitude cold environment. The snow leopard is the flagship species of this Trans-Himalayan
ecosystem.
